Liverpool sank at Napoli, Lewandowski regaled the Camp Nou with a hat-trick, Bayern won the first clash of Group C and OM got off to a bad start… Find out the highlights of Wednesday’s games counting for the first day of the Champions League.

Results of the evening:

Group A : Napoli 4-1 Liverpool, Ajax Amsterdam 4-0 Rangers
Group B : Atletico Madrid 2-1 FC Porto, Brugge 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen
Group C: Inter Milan 0-2 Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona 5-1 Viktoria Plzen
Group D : Tottenham 2-0 OM, Frankfurt 0-3 Sporting Portugal

Results of the evening:

1. Liverpool atomized by Napoli!

It was an expected game, and it did not disappoint. It even surprised, since the Partenopei inflicted a real lesson to the Reds (4-1) at the Diego Maradona Stadium! At half-time, the Italian team was already leading by three goals thanks to Zielinski (5th), Zambo Anguissa (31st) and Simeone (44th), not to mention a penalty missed by Osimhen. Zielinski signed a double after the break (47th), while Diaz saved the honor (49th). What a game!

2. Lewandowski sees triple!

Viktoria Plzen had little hope before their trip to Catalonia, and rightly so with this heavy defeat (1-5). The Blaugrana quickly made the difference at the Camp Nou thanks to Kessié (13th), before the inevitable Polish striker signed a triple (34th, 45+3rd, 68th) thanks to two goals of foxes and a shot from 20 meters. In Munich or Barcelona, “Lewy” still loves the C1…

3. The shock of the “group of death” for Munich.

With Bayern, Inter and Barça, group C will offer us some great matches. The first one took place tonight, and it turned to the advantage of the Germans on the lawn of the Italians (2-0). Now without Lewandowski, the Roten had to rely on Sané, who scored in the first half after a superb sequence (25th) and scored twice in the second half (66th).

4. Marseille starts badly…

and it’s cruel. Marseille had a very good first half at Tottenham (0-2), before starting the second half badly with the exclusion of Mbemba. The Phocéens were brave and resisted for a long time, before Richarlison finally found the fault with his head, twice (76th, 81st). Next match for Igor Tudor’s men: Tuesday against Frankfurt, at the Vel’.

5. Sporting defeats Frankfurt.

In group D, the one of OM, Sporting will be the only one to qualify for the last 16! On the pitch of Eintracht (3-0), the Portuguese club has unfolded after the break with goals from Edwards (65th), Trincao (67th) and Santos (82nd). A perfect night for the Lisbon team, while the Europa League winners start their C1 campaign in the worst way.

6. Crazy end of the game in Madrid!

The first goal of the game between Atletico and Porto (2-1) was scored… at the 90+2nd by Hermoso! What happened after these incredible nine minutes of extra time? A penalty conceded by the Madrid defender and converted by Uribe (90+6th) before the winning goal for the Colchoneros signed… Griezmann (90+11th), who entered the game in the 61st, as usual.

7. Brugge in the lead with Atletico.
The Belgians thought for a long time that they were alone at the top of Group B tonight, but they will have to share the first place. Unlike the Colchoneros, Brugge “quickly” made the difference against Bayer Leverkusen (1-0) thanks to Sylla (42nd). In the second half, Schick thought to equalize for the Germans, before being flagged offside by the VAR (73rd).

8. The Ajax faithful to the post.
Once again, the Dutch team has been deplored this summer, but they are still performing well in C1! The Rangers have paid the price this Wednesday in Amsterdam (0-4) by spending a quarter of an hour very difficult: Alvarez (17th), Berghuis (32nd) and Kudus (33rd) have ended the suspense in 16 minutes, while Bergwijn added the nail in the coffin at the end of the game (80th).
