After several weeks of negotiations, Chelsea has made official the recruitment of Wesley Fofana for 82.5 million euros. The French central defender, who has signed for seven years, has become the fourth most expensive player in history in his position.

Wesley Fofana (21) is a new player at Chelsea. Two years after his arrival from Saint-Etienne, the French central defender felt it was time for him to set sail. And as is often the case with the 2016 English champion, the acquiring club had to pay.

Fofana among the biggest transfers in history

Indeed, the Blues have exploded their piggy bank to get the native of Marseille with a transfer of 82.5 million euros. In history, only three players have cost more in his position: Harry Maguire, rightly left Leicester for Manchester United for 87 million euros in the summer of 2019, Matthijs de Ligt, left Ajax to Juventus for 85.5 million euros during the same mercato, and Virgil van Dijk, transferred from Southampton to Liverpool for 84 million euros in the winter of 2018. A big transfer for the international Espoirs, who is committed for seven years, until June 2029, which will especially allow ASSE, his training club, to recover up to 10 million euros.

Chelsea will have a hell of a defense…,

For Thomas Tuchel, this is obviously a major recruit. With the departures of Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid) and Andreas Christensen (Barcelona), the German manager will be able to count on one of the greatest hopes of world soccer in addition to Marc Cucurrella, who arrived for 65.3 million euros from Brighton, and Kalidou Koulibaly, recruited for 38 million euros from Napoli. With the possible departure of Thiago Silva at the end of the season, the Blues have secured their backs, especially since Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig) could arrive next summer for 90 million euros. This is further proof, if any were needed, that the Premier League clubs are not in the same league…,
